136 East 9th Street
Khune House
Built circa 1870, this house was home to F. J. Khune in 1894, who worked in the oil industry in New York City. It later became the residence of Governor Runyon, where he raised his family. This house has a sister property located at 114 Crescent Avenue, known as the Ebenezer Roberts House. The structure features a magnificent three-story sunroom at the rear and an intriguing porch railing with holes drilled into it. The interior was remodeled during the Colonial Revival era after a fire caused significant damage. This house is one of three in the area that still has working gas lighting. The Victorian hairpin fence and gate were custom-made in Virginia and installed in 2002.
